Dear Parent,

Staff Car Park – Just to remind parents that this is not available at the end of the day for parents to use. Our car park is already very congested with staff parking 2 deep in most of the bays. It is dangerous when parents drive in and children are in the car park. In the past staff cars have been damaged and there have also been some “near misses” with children. PLEASE remember the car park is not available and that includes visiting school during parents evenings and when collecting children after clubs. You are very welcome to use the ‘overflow’ car park opposite the Holystone pub car park.

PTA Volunteers needed! – A message from our PTA is printed at the bottom of this newsletter.

Sponsored run – Our School Council are organising a sponsored run with crazy hair and tracksuits in aid of Sport Relief/Nature Garden on 23rd March. More details to follow.

Pupil Voice – Any comments or suggestions pupils would like to make to the School Council may be emailed to them at theschoolcouncil@live.co.uk

-------------------------------- Questions & Suggestions --------------------------------

My daughter is in Y3 and came home yesterday with information and a sponsor form from the charity LEPRA. Whilst I appreciate it is not something she has to take part in or donate to, I feel somewhat forced into. My daughter had been shown images of children with leprosy, which frankly have upset and disturbed her therefore she was pleading with us to donate. I, myself and my family decide which charities to give to. We had to explain to her about the many awful diseases in the world and the fact that we can’t always donate to them all. I would like your comments please. I am also not certain whether parents should maybe have given consent for your presentation of such images. I think it is a personal choice what children are allowed to see at 7 years old.

I was sorry to hear that your child was upset. The parents I have spoken to tell me that their children were touched by what they had seen and heard but keen to help. LEPRA was here in 2002 and it was our most successful fundraiser ever, raising over £1000 for this very worthwhile cause. I have spoken to a teacher in Reception and there has been no feedback from the children at all. I asked a teacher in Y1 talk to the class about this and a large majority said that they had enjoyed the assembly because they had more information about different parts of the world, they learned about leprosy and they liked helping other people. Two children said they thought it was boring and one child said he didn’t like the photographs. The response from the Year 2 children was 3 children (out of 60) said they were concerned about others having leprosy but they said they were pleased that this appeal would help them to be treated. I have looked at the photographs, which were used, and my personal view is that children are presented with considerably more disturbing issues every day on the television and in newspapers. Also the photographs showed before and after treatment, which always left the children with a positive message that it was possible to solve this problem with support from charities such as LEPRA.

Dear Parents and Carers

We are currently a small but dedicated band however many of us have older children in the school and as they leave we can no longer be actively involved.

We are therefore looking for the next group of eager and enthusiastic parents, grandparents or carers who would like to join us.

We generally meet at school, around 2pm, usually at the end of the week. Pre school children of any age are always welcome at the meetings.

You don’t need to attend every meeting or participate in every event, many of us are working parents ourselves and know how precious time is!!!

If you think you may be interested in joining us or helping out and would like to learn more, please contact the school office and leave your details.

We look forward to hearing from you.
