First Half Autumn Term Exploring and Discovering Homework
Victorian Trip
Year 6 will study the Victorian era in history. In December 2011 you will be given a fantastic opportunity to experience a Victorian Christmas and stay in a traditional house in Cumbria. During our stay we will dress up as the gentry and servants, wait on each other, make felt and go into a genuine mine. Watch out for the housekeeper, Mrs Eccles, who will make the visit very authentic!
Literacy
In literacy we read a variety of texts including Holes, Street Child and The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. To help us understand the books better we have lots of discussions and drama sessions. Our other favourite authors include Anthony Browne, Shaun Tann and Brian Selznick.
Science
In science we study micro-organisms, lifecyles and changing state. We do lots of practical activities, such as making bread, to further our understanding of the topics. Each year we have a fun science day working with Proctor and Gamble. We also visit the local high schools to use the bunsen burners in their labs!
